The task was to design the logo and other supporting brand assets. "Chaap" in Hindi can refer to a logo, meaning a mark or impression. To create a "Chaap" for Chaap, we designed a mark inspired by the printer's marks used for accuracy and detecting inconsistencies during printing, called The Star Target. Chaap's logo also has a strong Indian connection, as it resembles the Ashoka Chakra, often considered the "chaap" or mark of India's identity.
In Hindi, "chaap" also means print, copy, or duplication. Other Chaap logo variations were designed with the theme of duplication in mind, using existing iconic logo marks in appropriate contexts. For instance, a Chaap logo that duplicates a popular shipping company in India, DTDC, is used on Chaap's shipping labels. The idea is to create a library of such duplicates of iconic marks and logos, reinforcing the theme of duplication and replication.
